Project Summary

For those interested in dentistry and travel, volunteering with this project is an excellent opportunity. Volunteers will work with dentists from Argentina as well as their patients. This project mixes both learning and travel together. It is the perfect opportunity for future dentists. Volunteers will teach local children about oral hygiene, work directly with patients and assist dentists with a variety of dentistry aspects such as orthodontics, endodontic, oral surgery and implants. This project is designed so volunteers can learn about dentistry in a casual environment, while also discovering Argentina.

Skills/Qualifications Needed

If you have basic or intermediate knowledge of Spanish will be able to volunteer effectively. If do not have any knowledge of Spanish, please consider joining our Spanish program while volunteering in Cordoba. You must also be adaptable, committed to your work, have insurance to cover your accident, illness and third party liability. The project is also open to college students or graduates who are interested in dentistry. Volunteers must have good social skills, as they will be working directly with patients.

Volunteer's Responsibilities

You must commit a minimum of 8 weeks to the project and you must work a minimum of 20 hours per week. Your responsibilities include scheduling patients, becoming involved in administrative tasks, prosthetic cases dealing with lab, the technicians, and scheduling, printing insurance forms and submitting claims with the appropriate documentation, and enter in the computer information for new patients, insurance information and patient treatment. You must also understand insurance benefits, percentages, usual and customary fees, and deducing the patient's co-payment for certain procedures.

Project Location

The project is located in Cordoba, which has a cultural rich history and colonial charm. Cordoba has been home for a great many writers, artists, and musicians. The streets and character of the city offer much stimulation and are quite exciting to experience. The urban environment offers a plentitude for volunteers to experience, and there are also nearby nature opportunities in the Andes and Pampas.
