Zimbabwe is an amazing country that offers a wealth of attractions for travelers to enjoy. One of its most famous landmarks is the majestic Victoria Falls. The falls is known for its impressive size and the mist it generates, earning it the nickname "The Smoke That Thunders." The country is also home to diverse national parks where visitors can spot a variety of wildlife, including lions and elephants. History enthusiasts will appreciate the country with remarkable stone ruins dating back centuries. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the scenic Eastern Highlands with its hiking trails and stunning vistas, or relax along the shores of Lake Kariba.

Despite the thriving tourism industry in Zimbabwe, the rural communities have not experienced the same level of prosperity. Instead, they combat with significant challenges and disparities. Many residents within these rural areas face severe economic challenges, living below the poverty line. The lack of access to essential resources doubles their struggles, with issues such as limited medical, educational sports and other opportunities.

Join our volunteer program in Zimbabwe and contribute to improving the living conditions of grassroots communities and underprivileged children. Whether you choose to teach English to children from underprivileged families, work in orphanages, support HIV/AIDS initiatives, teach sports techniques, volunteer in hospital, your efforts will have a lasting impact.

The Fee and Dates

CDP Zimbabwe volunteer program starts every Monday of each month.

Every year hundreds of volunteers arrive in Zimbabwe to volunteer from UK- and US-based organizations and end up paying up to R2500 to volunteer for 2 weeks. Unfortunately, only a small portion of that money actually goes to host projects and host families. The local host projects (orphanages, school, and local NGOs) in South Africa are poor and need external support to run their programs. In our program, you will pay your fee directly to host families and projects upon arrival in Zimbabwe. When you join our program, we will make sure that all of your money goes to the projects and host families. Part of your fees also helps us cover our expenses. The program fee is divided into a registration fee ($279) and weekly fee for room, food, coordination, and project donation.

Click to find the allocation of $279

During your program, you'll stay at our volunteer house in Victoria Falls, which is about 4 kilometers from the city center. Bedrooms are equipped with single beds, with each room accommodating a minimum of two and a maximum of four individuals. When we have a high number of volunteers, we may add bunk beds to ensure everyone has a comfortable place to sleep.

Our lounge area provides a relaxing space with comfortable seating and a television offering various international news and entertainment channels. Volunteers also have access to free 24-hour internet for communication purposes, although excessive downloading or streaming may temporarily slow down access.

We have support services available throughout the day, including a cook, cleaner, and gardener. The volunteer house is conveniently located within 500m to 1km of essential services like shops, ensuring a peaceful and homely environment. Laundry services are provided every Tuesday for a fee of USD$10 per bunch.

During your stay, you'll receive breakfast, lunch, and dinner from Monday to Friday. On weekends, only breakfast will be provided. Our meals showcase delicious Zimbabwean cuisine, with breakfast usually including cereal and toast. For dinner, you can expect a hearty home-cooked meal featuring local ingredients like meat, vegetables, rice or potatoes, and salad.

If you have dietary preferences or restrictions, such as being vegetarian or vegan, please let your in-country coordinator know beforehand so that we can accommodate your needs accordingly. Your satisfaction and comfort during your stay are our priorities.
