In recent years, the population of Ecuador has dramatically increased. Regretfully poverty has plagued the population and government infrastructure and other social issues have left many on the streets. Many poor children have been abandoned. These children struggle with issues of education, health, home, and many others.
This project focuses volunteers assisting the needs of the local orphanage where many children call home. Volunteers will act as mentors, teachers, and general support systems for these children. Volunteers will be donating their personal talents and skills to assist these children in living the best life possible. Your role as a volunteer is to offer love and other such resources to keep these children off the streets and help them build a better life.
You don't require any specific set of skills to volunteer in the project. We will prefer volunteers who can speak a little bit of Spanish as they will be able to communicate better with the children and the staff at the orphanage. You should also come with energy and drive, and care and love the children. We also expect volunteers to be flexible and adaptive as working condition and the mentality of the people are very different from people back home.
Volunteers will assist orphaned children in various ways and help the orphanage run their programs smoothly. You can teach them English and/or Spanish, organize games and create programs such as plays, music, dances, and even recreational activities. You may also take the children on day trips, educational visits and teach them about personal hygiene. You can also participate in kitchen work, help clean the orphanage, and work in the administration.
Our past volunteers have also been involved in fundraising activities to help raise funds to improve the infrastructure of the orphanage.
This project is located in Quito, Ecuador's capital city. Quito is the former home of the Inca Empire and full of rich history that dates back to pre-Columbus times. Volunteers will find themselves in a city that offers great images of the past. Quito is full of both historic intrigue and modern day pleasures.
In general, Quito and the entire nation of Ecuador have many destinations for the volunteer to experience. The biodiversity of Ecuador will offer you a plentitude of natural wonders to seek out. Volunteers can take a trip to the Galapagos Islands to see the marine iguanas or visit Isla de La Plata that has reached global popularity for whale watching. There are numerous beaches where you can get some sun or go snorkeling. There is also the nearby Amazon Rainforest if you feel like having a tropical adventure. Volunteers are sure to find themselves with many options for things to do during their free time.
