The orphanages of China are usually government run facilities and quite well managed. But these orphanages have many children and not enough staffs to care for them. The children also need to be helped during their studies and provided love. The local staffs are sometimes overwhelmed by the number of children they have to look after and they don’t find the time to properly care for the children. The orphanage has over 400 children ranging from a 5 year old to 16. They attend schools but need all the help they can get to finish their homework and to improve their English. When you volunteer in the orphanage, you’ll help these children out in a variety of way, some of which includes teaching them English and other subjects and caring for them.

Your Responsibility as a Volunteer:

Teaching is one of the main responsibilities of a volunteer. You’ll converse with them, play with them, teach them nursery rhymes and hold debates and discussions with older ones. You will only look after limited number of children as there are over 400 in the orphanage. With your children, you’ll also make sure they eat properly, are wearing clean clothes and are generally happy.

Skills Required:

Volunteers don’t require any skills to volunteer in the project expect have passionate to help orphaned and needy children. You’ll also have to be open-minded as working condition and the mentality of the people will be very different from what you’re used back home.

Arrangement of room/food/supervision:

Volunteers will stay in a Home Base, hostel or with a host family and take 3 local meals a day. If volunteers find the food too spicy they ask for less spicy meals if they want. While staying with a host family, you’ll have a wonderful chance to learn about local people and their culture. Our Xi’an coordinator will be in touch with you all the time to ensure you are well and enjoying your volunteering.
