Street Children Project in Peru

Through no fault of their own many children are forced to live in the streets. Some are abandoned by parents who can no longer provide for their little ones, some are deliberately crippled to make them more successful beggars, and others may have run away from a bad family life.. In order to help give these children a better chance in the future, and protect them from the horrors of exploitation and abuse, many organizations are working to get children off the streets and into them a homely, secure environment.

As a young 17 year-old volunteer in Peru for the Street Children project you can help street children at care-homes and schools by teaching them, making sure that they are well fed and nourished, and by providing proper guidance and care.

No professional skills or special is experience required to join one of our 17 year old volunteer abroad projects, but you do need to have a sense of purpose, and be both flexible and patient. The project leaders recommend volunteers have at least a basic level understanding of Spanish.

In order to preserve the beautiful, natural environment of Cape Town and its surroundings the Voluntary Conservation Project in South Africa requires passionate and dedicated youngsters to tackle the problems of climate change, habitat loss and animal poaching.

As a volunteer in this program you will work from Monday to Sunday, from 8 am in the morning to 5 pm in the evening. You will be actively involved in visitor management, path clearing, bird counting and reporting, running awareness programs which educate locals on the importance of nature conservation, creating brochures and raising funds.

There are no set qualifications or skills needed to enroll in this voluntary opportunity in South Africa; all you need is a passion for the outdoors and a willingness to get your hands dirty.

Work in Orphanage Uganda

As a result of poverty and the spread of HIV/AIDs many children in Uganda have become orphans. These children are deprived of even the most basic needs of life. Many orphanages and international volunteer organizations have been making huge efforts to educate, feed and provide a roof in their heads, however, inadequate budgets and a shortage of qualified personnel often hinder the process. By doing voluntary work in Uganda, you can help mitigate this problem and bringing smiles to the faces of these needy youngsters.

On the orphanage project in Uganda you spend 3 hours a day with the children, teaching math, English and basic science, and helping them engage in music, art and dance. Other work involves helping with the personal hygiene program learning and helping the administrative staff in the orphanage to raise funds.

You need not have an experience or qualification in teaching to make a difference on this project, but you do need to be patient, and able to relate well to children. This voluntary opportunity in Uganda has much more to offer than work. Based in the capital city of Kampala, you will have ample time to visit the famous museums, galleries and the colorful market of the city.

Teaching English to Buddhist Monks in Nepal

Buddhism is one of the most dominant religions in the world. A religion of peace, it’s traditionally been important largely in Asia, but is now growing in popularity in the western world as well. To spread the word of Buddha and communicate with the outside world the monasteries in Nepal need monks to be well versed in English Language.

In this particular English teaching voluntary program in Nepal your job will be to act as a basic English instructor to young Buddhist monks in monasteries based in Kathmandu and Pokhara. As a volunteer on the English teaching project in Nepal you will also organize games and other creative activities for the young monks.

You don’t need to be a native English speaker or have any teaching experience to participate in this project, but you must be able to demonstrate fluency in English and have a strong motivation to teach.

Teaching English in China

The desire to learn English in China is on the rise because the country’s rapid economic development is attracting many foreign projects, multinational companies, and outsourcing businesses. Being able to read, write and converse in English is the way many people get a job in a foreign-owned company, or even a place in major universities.

Volunteering in China as an English teacher offers you the chance to share your knowledge of the language with hundreds of Chinese students. As a volunteer you will be responsible for teaching conversational English, holding debates and discussions, helping the children with their homework, and assisting local teachers with general duties.

Your voluntary work in China involves 4 to 6 hours of teaching every day, from Monday to Friday. For a 17-year old volunteer teaching experience is not required, but fluency in the language is a must. Youth Athletic Program in Brazil

Many people associate Brazil or more specifically Rio, with football, The Christ Statue, gorgeous beaches and annual carnivals; but there are some parts which are too grim and dark for tourists to see. These are the areas dominated by poverty, drugs and notorious crimes. Children living in such neighborhoods, (known as favelas), often end up becoming gang members.

With nothing to occupy their mind bored youngsters easily come into contact with people living a lifestyle featuring drugs and substance abuse. However, if these kids are given an opportunity to play games, stay fit, and learn sports with the Youth Volunteer Athletic Program in Brazil, then their minds will be diverted from those destructive activities.

Volunteers try to engage children with volleyball, skateboarding, football and even surfing by organizing these events and raising the funds to buy the equipment needed. The Voluntary Youth Athletic Project in Brazil is located in a major favela of Rio-de-Janeiro. A favela is a densely packed neighborhood in Brazil with high-crime rates and poverty.

HIV /AIDS Project in Ghana

Ghana is severely affected by the outspread of HIV/AIDs. To prevent further spread of the disease and create awareness on safe sex and contraceptive devices, RCDP has been actively involved in the HIV/AIDS Volunteer Project in Ghana. Your duty as a volunteer in the HIV/AIDs program in Ghana will be to promote behavioral change by facilitating awareness programs on health, hygiene and the prevention of the disease.

The greatest requirement on the volunteering in Ghana on the HIV/AIDs project is flexibility and open-mindedness. These people are sick and dying, and to deal with them you need to be good at handling emotions and be able to show your compassion.

Your work ranges from giving first aid treatments, carrying out meetings to supporting counseling groups. The project is located in Accra and Kumasi and can take anywhere between 1-12 weeks for completion.
