The volunteering with the elderly in Antigua, Guatemala program is an excellent option! This is your moment to be the shining light for those residing in a local senior center, oftentimes far from their families.

You will be working at this residential senior home when you commit to volunteering overseas with the elderly in Antigua, Guatemala. Your help is greatly needed as more of a companion, caregiver, and friend to the elderly long-term residents of the home.

You will be given instructions and guidance from the local occupational therapists, physical therapists, doctors and nurses. Your warmth, compassion, company, and friendship will make a big difference in the lives of those who find themselves at the center.

You will have plenty of free time from the volunteer with the elderly program in Antigua, Guatemala, as your work commitment is only on Mondays through Friday, to explore the culturally rich and vibrant town of Antigua and the surrounding areas.

This will surely prove to be a rewarding, culturally expanding, self-discovering, and memorable experience!

Skill/Qualification

There are no specific skills or qualifications needed in order to be a general volunteer with the elderly in Antigua, Guatemala.

However, you should be patient, flexible, compassionate, and open- minded. If you cannot speak Spanish, we recommend enrolling in our Spanish Language Studies program, which can run simultaneous to your volunteer project or immerse in this program for a week prior to your project.

Professional volunteers are greatly needed, including occupational therapists, physical therapists, psychologists, doctors, and nurses. Professional volunteers should be able to work independently in Spanish or be willing to pay for a translator to accompany them.

Role of Volunteer

During your volunteering with the elderly opportunity in Antigua, Guatemala, you will act as a companion, caregiver, and friend to the elderly residing in the home. General and professional volunteers are welcome to apply.

It should be noted that no photography is permitted inside or outside on hospital grounds. You must also wear closed toed shoes and dress conservatively (no tank tops). You might be involved with tasks such as assisting nurses, helping with meals, and playing with the children.
