Despite growth in international trade and ever increasing tourist arrivals in the country, many Thais still can’t speak and understand English. The standard of English all over the country is very poor. Trained manpower is still in short supply and even those trained aren’t up to international standards. English however has become very important for ordinary Thais to learn as their career could hinge on their ability to speak and write in English.
Join our Teaching English volunteer program and help ordinary Thais learn English. You’ll find the students eager to learn from a foreign volunteer and generally well behaved.
No teaching experience required. However, we do expect our volunteers to be fluent in English but not necessarily a native English speaker. You should also be flexible and patient and have passion to work with children.
You will teach English to students of primary and lower secondary schools. Every school in Thailand will have their own permanent English teacher. You will assist the teacher initially.
You will work 5 days a week from Monday to Friday and teach according to the official curriculum but you can always teach extra and share stories of your travel and tales of where you come from. You are also encouraged to hold debates and discussions as this can often increase the capacity to comprehend English. In addition to this, you can organize or participate in extra-curricular activities like games and plays.
RCDP will look after your entire needs during your project work. Volunteers will stay in a hostel in the historic city of Ayuthaya, which is about 60 miles north of Bangkok. The accommodation is clean, in a safe place and within easy reach of all the volunteer placements. You’ll have to share your room with other volunteers. The resident chef will prepare you 3 local meals a day. In your free time, volunteers can explore magnificent ancient ruins of Ayuthaya. Even Bangkok is only 2-3 hours away. You can also plan to visit Konchanburi, Chiang Mai or the south of Thailand for spectacular beaches.
