Each year, due to hunger, poverty and HIV/AIDS, thousands of children become orphaned in Tanzania. Because the government is poor and has very limited resources, they cannot offer any to the orphaned children. These young kids mostly end up living on the street and many become involve in petty crime or are exploited as they seek work to survive. There are however many orphanages helping these children have a decent life. But the orphanages, started by individual efforts and funded by donations from abroad, are resource poor and struggle to provide the services required to give children a good life.

RCDP has recognized this situation and we’re cooperating with local orphanages. You can now volunteer in our orphanage project and help the orphanages provide children with all the basic necessities. RCDP projects are located in two major cities in Dar Es Salaam and Arusha.

Skill/Qualification

No specific qualifications needed. We expect our volunteers to be flexible and patient. You should also have passion and enthusiasm to take care of children.

Volunteer's Responsibilities

Share your love, skills and take care of the orphaned children. This will give them hope for a better future.

The major responsibilities of a volunteer involves teaching the children English, math, or other subjects you think you can, assist them with their homework, teach personal hygiene, tidy their beds, change their clothes, wash them, feed them and even drop them to school. You may also have to pitch in with kitchen work, clean the orphanage and help in administrative duties. Many volunteers have also been involved with fundraising activities designed to help ease the financial burden facing the orphanage.

Accommodation/Meal and Supervision

RCDP will look after your entire needs while you volunteer in disadvantage children project. During the volunteering period, volunteers stay with a host family and will be provided a separate room and share bath room. However, a volunteer joining the orphanage project will stay at the orphanage compound. Details of the room/food accommodations are listed clearly on the placement sheets. When you stay with a host family, you will serve typical Tanzanian food three free meals a day. Staying with a host family is a wonderful way to experience local culture and lifestyle. RCDP In-Country coordinator and staffs will keep in touch with you by either visiting you every week or will contact with via phone. You will be provided with all the contact details of our office in Tanzania. If you have anything you want to discuss about, please feel free to contact our In-Country coordinator.
