The healthcare system in Peru isn’t all up to standard, especially in rural areas where most indigenous population live. Because of this and many other reasons, many people succumb to curable diseases leaving orphan children behind. For the orphans, they have no where to turn to except orphanages. There is no government help for the children as Peru is a poor country and the government’s resources are very limited. The orphanages so far are doing a great job of feeding, educating and housing them, but they are perennially short of money and helping hands to take care of children.

Join RCDP’s orphanage work in Peru and help the orphanages take care of the children. We have teamed up with orphanages that are offering secure and same place for the children to stay. Through your work, the children will feel loved and cared and will give them reasons to dream of a better future.

Skill/Qualification

No specific qualifications required for orphanage work project in Peru. Volunteers are requested to have patient and be flexible. We would however prefer volunteers with basic knowledge of Spanish as it would make communication with children very easy. This is not a requirement though.

Volunteer's Responsibilities

There are many things volunteers can do in an orphanage work project. You can teach English, assist the children with their studies, teach personal hygiene, clean their beds, organize creative activities like singing, drawing, story telling, and plays and even help the administration with their daily operation.

You may also be asked to help in kitchen work, clean the orphanage and perform administrative work. Many volunteers have also been involved in fundraising activities to help raise funds and ease the financial burden facing the orphanages.

Accommodation/Meal/Supervision:

In Peru, volunteers will stay in a hostel or with host families. Our local coordinators will make the decision to place you either in hostel or host family. Hostel is a home base kind of environment where you can mingle with other volunteers. In a host family, volunteers will get the opportunity to practice Spanish and experience local culture. Our host families have hosted many international volunteers. They are socially respected and will provide a safe and secure local for our volunteers to stay. You will have a private room and share kitchen and bathroom facilities. Many host families will not have running hot water. You can ask someone to do your dirty laundry for a small fee. The arrangement is entirely depended on you and the host family. You can also request to pack your lunch if you intend to be somewhere during lunch and vegetarian meals are an option. You are also more than welcomed to bring your own special diets and prepare them yourself. Please rest assured that your home stay will be safe and comfortable. RCDP staffs will also inquiry about your health and safety by visiting you while you’re volunteering in the field.
