Though the health care facilities in Peru have increased significantly, the poor people in the remote villages still haven’t felt this improvement. As a result, the poor still die of curable diseases and people from rural areas have to travel far and wide to receive proper treatment. This problem has been compounded by the refusal of doctors and nurses to work in rural areas. There are many local NGOs and initiatives that are trying to rectify this situation and many have been doing a stellar job of brining volunteer nurses and doctors to these parts to treat local people.
RCDP has teamed up with these organizations and is now offering volunteers a wonder opportunity to help the poor people of Peru by volunteering in health care project. You must however be of medical background to volunteer in the project and you will mostly work as an assistant to the doctor. Join now and save lives of ordinary Peruvian people.
Volunteers must furnish a document stating they are either a medical professional or a medical student. All volunteers are expected to be flexible, patient, be adaptive and have passion and enthusiasm to serve the poor.
The volunteers in the health project will assist doctors or nurses. You will measure BP, take temperature, measure height, weight and perform other health related tasks under the supervision. If any health camps are organized, you’ll participate in it and treat minor injuries and perform other tasks. Many volunteers have also worked in hospital’s administration and contributed meaningfully.
Accommodation/Meal/Supervision:In Peru, volunteers will stay in a hostel or with host families. Our local coordinators will make the decision to place you either in hostel or host family. Hostel is a home base kind of environment where you can mingle with other volunteers. In a host family, volunteers will get the opportunity to practice Spanish and experience local culture. Our host families have hosted many international volunteers. They are socially respected and will provide a safe and secure local for our volunteers to stay. You will have a private room and share kitchen and bathroom facilities. Many host families will not have running hot water. You can ask someone to do your dirty laundry for a small fee. The arrangement is entirely depended on you and the host family. You can also request to pack your lunch if you intend to be somewhere during lunch and vegetarian meals are an option. You are also more than welcomed to bring your own special diets and prepare them yourself. Please rest assured that your home stay will be safe and comfortable. RCDP staffs will also inquiry about your health and safety by visiting you while you’re volunteering in the field.
