Accommodation/Meal/Supervision:
In Panama, volunteers who are participating in the orphanage will stay at an on-site hostel. You will be sharing your room in the hostel with other volunteers. Volunteers who participate in the other projects will be accommodated with a host family. Host families are well screened and respected. They will provide a safe and clean place to stay. When you stay with a host family you will have the opportunity to practice your Spanish and learn about the local culture. If you stay in a hostel, you will have the opportunity to meet other adventurous travelers.
In both the hostel and with the host family, you will enjoy 3 meals per day. Host families offer shared bathroom facilities with running water and a “western” style toilet. Volunteers have the ability to do laundry at the house or the host family may offer to do it for you for a nominal extra fee. If you will be out of the house during lunch hour, you can request a lunch "to go" that you can take with you or eat out on your own. Host families provide typical meals that are traditional to Panama. It is recommended that volunteers bring their own toilet paper, toothbrush/paste, soap, bath towel, pillow, and sheets.
Throughout the volunteer project, our local staff stays in contact with volunteers either with face-to-face visits or via email/telephone. With longer placements, we visit our volunteers every two to four weeks (when possible).
