Kenya is mired in poverty and HIV/AIDS and thousands of children become orphans and homeless as a result of this. There is no government help for the orphaned children. They have to fend for themselves and many turn to life of crime or they’re exploited as they seek work to survive. There are many orphanages currently running through private funding that are taking care of orphaned children. These orphanages are however resource poor and struggle to offer a place to stay, food, education and proper clothing to the children. They’re also short staffed.

RCDP has collaborated with many local orphanages and we’re now offering volunteers a chance to help these orphanages by volunteering in our orphanage work project in Kenya. Through your care and love, the children will benefit a great deal and you’ll also ease the work pressure the staffs are currently experiencing.

Skill/Qualification

You must be passionate and dedicated to serve the orphans in our orphanage work project in Kenya. Through your work, the children will start to dream of a better future and you will gain immense satisfaction of having provided them with that.

Volunteer's Responsibilities

There are many things a volunteer can do in volunteer orphanage project. You will help the children remain healthy and well by like cleaning and tidying the children, changing their clothes, tidying the beds and also teach them English or math or whatever subjects you are good at. You can also help clean the orphanage, work in the kitchen, or even help with administrative duties.

You will mainly work in the evenings and in the mornings. Many of our volunteers have been involved in fundraising activities to help improve the financial situation of the orphanages.

Accommondation/Meal and Supervision

RCDP will manage your accommodation, meals and will look after all your needs during your volunteer work in orphanage project. You will stay with a host family during the project. You’ll be provided with a separate room and will be served 3 local meals a day. Our host families have been carefully chosen and will provide you with a safe and secure location. They’ll have experience of hosting foreign volunteers before and will provide meals that are prepared hygienically. At least one member of the host family will be able to communicate with you in English. Staying with a host family is a wonderful way to learn about the culture and the lifestyle of Kenyan people. Volunteers working in an orphanage however will stay inside the orphanage’s compound (hostel) and will eat their 3 meals together with the children of the orphanage. Details of the room/food accommodations are listed clearly on the placement sheets. RCDP will also call you or visit in every 2 weeks to check if you are satisfied and happy with the project.
