While Kenya has seen impressive increase in the standard of health services, this result has yet to reach rural villages where most poor Kenyans live. In these parts, people still die of curable disease. Many doctors and nurses also don’t prefer to work in these areas. Recognizing this situation, RCDP is offering medical volunteers a chance to work in rural health posts and community clinics in our healthcare project in Kenya. You will mostly work as an assistant to a doctor but your work responsibilities vary according to your education, skill and experience.

Skill/Qualification

Volunteers must furnish a document stating they are either a medical professional or a medical student to volunteer in healthcare project in Kenya. All volunteers are expected to be flexible, patient and adaptive.

Volunteer's Responsibilities

Your responsibilities vary according to education, skills, experience, and qualifications. Volunteers will mostly assist doctors or work as an assistant to doctors. Your work will might include: measuring BP, temperature, height, weight, assist doctors and medical staffs with health center tasks. You will also help in health camps (if any), distribute medicines, provide tips to patients on health, nutrition and sanitation and counseling patients and treat minor injuries or wounds. Many of our past volunteers have also work for hospital’s administration.

Accommondation/Meal and Supervision

RCDP will manage your accommodation, meals and will look after all your needs during your volunteer work in Healthcare project. You will stay with a host family during the project. You’ll be provided with a separate room and will be served 3 local meals a day. Our host families have been carefully chosen and will provide you with a safe and secure location. They’ll have experience of hosting foreign volunteers before and will provide meals that are prepared hygienically. At least one member of the host family will be able to communicate with you in English. Staying with a host family is a wonderful way to learn about the culture and the lifestyle of Kenyan people. RCDP will also call you or visit in every 2 weeks to check if you are satisfied and happy with the project.
