Kenya contains mountains, deserts, tribal cultural and beaches. It is also known for national parks where wildlife roam in abundance. Needless to say, tourism is the main stay of the country. It is also a country where people are well educated. Despite all this positives, Kenya does suffer from economy that is weak and where tribal lines divide people from integrating. Deprivation is widespread and many people struggle to eke out enough to survive. This has given rise to some of the largest slums in the world in Nairobi and other urban areas.
But there is also hope as government in Kenya is more accountable to its people than in other neighboring countries, and people are forming grassroots organizations to fight poverty and build a better future for themselves. RCDP International works with these organizations to offer volunteer placements to anyone who wants to experience a third-world country working hard to have a better future. During the volunteer project, you will stay with the local community and work with local people that will give them motivation and encourage to continue with their good work.
RCDP Kenya Program starts every 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month.
Every year hundreds of volunteers arrive in Kenya to volunteer from UK and USA based organizations and end up paying up to $2500 to volunteer for 2 weeks. Unfortunately, only a small portion of that money actually goes to host projects and host families. The local host projects (orphanages, school, and local NGOs) in Kenya are poor and need external support to run their programs. In our program, you will pay your fee directly to host families and projects up o
n arrival in Kenya.
When you join our program, we will make sure that all of your money goes to the projects and host families. Part of your fees also helps us to cover our expenses. The program fee is divided in as registration fee ($259) and weekly fee ($80 per week for room, food, coordination, and project donation). Click to find the allocation of $259
Weekly fee is divided between room/3 local foods a day (50%) and project donation/support of local project staffs (50%). This allocation may be different depending up on location, project type etc. However, our coordinator will explain these issues before you pay the fee. Please find below the break down of cost in a weekly basis.

In Kenya, volunteers will stay in a hostel or with host families. Our local coordinators will make the decision to place you either in hostel or host family. Hostel is a home base kind of environment where you can mingle with other volunteers. In a host family, volunteers will get the opportunity to practice Spanish and experience local culture. Our host families have hosted many international volunteers. They are socially respected and will provide a safe and secure local for our volunteers to stay. You will have a private room and share kitchen and bathroom facilities. Many host families will not have running hot water. You can ask someone to do your dirty laundry for a small fee. The arrangement is entirely depended on you and the host family. You can also request to pack your lunch if you intend to be somewhere during lunch and vegetarian meals are an option. You are also more than welcomed to bring your own special diets and prepare them yourself. Please rest assured that your home stay will be safe and comfortable. RCDP staffs will also inquiry about your health and safety by visiting you while you’re volunteering in the field.
