The Maasai tribe has for centuries lived in their land, refusing to modernize or migrate. They’re mostly nomadic people depending on cattle and nomadic existence. Today, the tribe faces hunger, disease and migration of youth to urban areas in search of work that will potentially rob them of their culture and unique way of life. To help prevent that from happening, many grassroots organizations are trying to bring development by establishing schools, clinics and imparting skills training. It is hoped these activities will empower the Maasai and make them less vulnerable to natural as well as man-made calamities. It is also envisioned that through this development, the Maasai can still maintain their culture and their unique relationship with their land. So volunteer in Kenya Maasai project and help these unique tribes to prosper. By aiding in this effort, you’ll also learn about their amazing culture and aid in making Maasai prosper.

RCDP Kenya Program starts every 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month.
Every year hundreds of volunteers arrive in Kenya to volunteer from UK and USA based organizations and end up paying up to $2500 to volunteer for 2 weeks. Unfortunately, only a small portion of that money actually goes to host projects and host families. The local host projects (orphanages, school, and local NGOs) in Kenya are poor and need external support to run their programs. In our program, you will pay your fee directly to host families and projects up o
n arrival in Kenya.
When you join our program, we will make sure that all of your money goes to the projects and host families. Part of your fees also helps us to cover our expenses. The program fee is divided in as registration fee ($219) and weekly fee ($70 per week for room, food, coordination, and project donation). Click to find the allocation of $219
Weekly fee is divided between room/3 local foods a day (50%) and project donation/support of local project staffs (50%). This allocation may be different depending up on location, project type etc. However, our coordinator will explain these issues before you pay the fee. Please find below the break down of cost in a weekly basis.

In Kenya, volunteers will stay in a hostel or with host families. Our local coordinators will make the decision to place you either in hostel or host family. Hostel is a home base kind of environment where you can mingle with other volunteers. In a host family, volunteers will get the opportunity to practice Spanish and experience local culture. Our host families have hosted many international volunteers. They are socially respected and will provide a safe and secure local for our volunteers to stay. You will have a private room and share kitchen and bathroom facilities. Many host families will not have running hot water. You can ask someone to do your dirty laundry for a small fee. The arrangement is entirely depended on you and the host family. You can also request to pack your lunch if you intend to be somewhere during lunch and vegetarian meals are an option. You are also more than welcomed to bring your own special diets and prepare them yourself. Please rest assured that your home stay will be safe and comfortable. RCDP staffs will also inquiry about your health and safety by visiting you while you’re volunteering in the field.
