The threat of HIV/AIDS is a burning issue in India, as India is one of the most HIV/AIDS affected country in the world. In India, there is a serious stigma attached to those who are affected by HIV/AIDS. People have limited knowledge about HIV/AIDS and its prevention. People who become infected are often excluded by their own family members and society. In Delhi and Jaipur, various organizations are working to improve HIV/AIDS awareness by educating the locals about its condition, and by taking care of HIV-infected patients through clinical support. The major focus of these groups’ is to foster awareness about the disease and to change the attitudes and behaviors of the locals towards the infected people.

Your Activities as a Volunteer:

As a volunteer in HIV/AIDS project, you will work in health clinics and with social welfare organizations. You will participate in their endeavor to educate the public about this deadly disease. You can also assist in the development of educational program, training and seminars for groups like health professionals, students and sex trade workers. Besides this, you can help in screening and report writing too.

You can also help the patients and their families and make them comfortable. The work you do will gradually make society aware of the disease and lessen the stigma attached with it. You can visit hospitals and medical facilities and comfort the patients. If you have experience fundraising, you can work with our local partners to collect funds for HIV/AIDS projects and the victims.

Project Skills Required:

No experience is required to involve in HIV/AIDS program that involve creating public awareness and motivation. In India, local hospitals also run treatment program for HIV/AIDS program. To join hospital based HIV/AIDS program, you need to submit proof of your medical background such as medical professionals, medical students, nurses etc

Project Location:

Delhi: Delhi one of the largest cities of India. It is also the capital of India. The city offers a fascinating amalgamation of old and the new north India with ancient temples and monuments mingling with posh shopping malls and international food chain. It’s also a city where you can find glittering buildings next to a shanty town.

Jaipur:Jaipur is the capital of Rajesthan and is known as the “pink city”. The city is truly an exotic and colorful place where people speak Rajesthani (Madwari) and Hindi. The city consist magnificent and majestic forts and palaces. The tour inside them will reveal the history of the Rajputs who ruled the city.

Arrangement of room/food/supervision

RCDP-India makes appropriate provision for food, room and supervision for its volunteers from the very beginning of their arrival to the country. During the first week of language and cultural immersion program, volunteers stay in RCDP's hostel in Gurgaon (Delhi) where cooks prepare a variety of Indian food (Nan, curry, Dal, chapatti, rice and pickle). During their volunteering programs in Delhi and Jaipur, volunteers stay in home base or project hostel or host family. Wherever, you stay RCDP India program offers you clean, simple, and safe accomodation and local foods 3 times a day. RCDP's staffs visit volunteers in their respective placement in every two- four week to acknowledge the feedback, volunteers' progress and the program in general.
