You can rest assure that your students will be residing in a safe and comfortable place. Most of our families that are participating as host families have hosted international volunteers previously.

Insurance and Evacuation Plan: All volunteers participating in a teen volunteer abroad vacation will  be covered by international insurance. International insurance protects against any unforeseen incidences. RCDP Volunteers offers one of the best comprehensive insurances from a third party provider. Our international insurance covers health-related problems, accidents, and other unpredictable occurrences.

All international travels requires travelers to act with caution and awareness. Prior to traveling abroad, we also advise you and your group leader to  consult your home government’s advisory office. The U.S. State Department issues travels warnings and advisories for American travelers. Advisories and warnings frequently change as the state of certain countries frequently change, so it is important to check regularly.

RCDP Volunteers also advises you or your team leader  to check the Center for Disease Control and Health for current information relating to health concerns that might be present in your chosen country. You can access this information at www.cdc.gov. It is likely that the sanitary conditions in third world countries might be quite different from the conditions in which you are used to. We strongly warn against drinking the tap water or eating food from local street vendors, as you are likely to get sick since you are not used to the bacteria that might be present.

RCDP Volunteers’ in-country coordinator and support team is here to ensure the safety, comfort, and happiness of all our volunteers participating in a high school volunteer abroad experience. We will provide you will all of the necessary contact information before you arrive.

FAQ High School Volunteer Abroad Programs

Who will lead the high school group?

During a high school volunteering abroad trip, the group is usually led by a designated group leader. However, a RCDP Volunteers in-country coordinator and staff members are stay with the group for the entire project period and actively involved with the volunteers throughout the program to ensure that everything runs smoothly and to our high standards.

Where do students stay during their high school volunteer abroad work?

Accommodation will vary depending on the specific country and project. However, most students reside with a host family, at a safe hostel, or at a volunteer house. Students will reside together and in close proximity.

Will there be time for traveling and excursions?

They will mostly be working 3-5 hours a day at their volunteer project, the rest of the time is theirs. We put together travel and tour programs so that they can easily explore local villages, markets, and places of interests within the country they are volunteering.

What is the food situation?

Part of your students’ program fee includes their meals. They will get fed three healthy, fresh, and locally inspired meals a day. If they are staying with a host family, their family will most likely be cooking for them during your high school volunteering overseas experience.

Will my group and I be safe?

Safety is our top priority. RCDP Volunteers has been running high school volunteering abroad trips for the last 13 years. We are working in safe and peaceful countries. We also select projects and host families personally. We carefully evaluate and monitor all parts of our teen volunteer abroad trips to ensure your safety and satisfaction.

Is there an opportunity to learn the local language?

Yes! If your students are interested in studying the local language, we can create a language immersion program for them. Most high school groups joining our programs in Latin America opt to learn Spanish while they are abroad. They can take two hours of language studies before or after their volunteer commitment.
